(Crain’s) — MillerCoors LLC is suing a company that makes equipment for beer pong, a popular drinking game, saying it infringes on its trademark Miller Lite logo.

MillerCoors alleges Connecticut-based PB&J Design Inc.’s beer pong logo on its table and game kits could easily be confused with the Miller Lite logo.

The Chicago-based brewer also takes PB&J to task for pushing what it describes as irresponsible drinking.

In beer pong, teams throw ping pong balls into opponents’ cups assembled across a table. When someone gets a ball into a cup, the opposition drinks the beer in the cup.

PB&J Design sells beer pong kits with balls, cups, tables and T-shirts on its website and at retailers such as Urban Outfitters and Spencer’s Gifts, according to the lawsuit.

“MillerCoors has taken steps to promote responsible drinking and has worked with the community and its local distributors to help the consuming public understand the importance of drinking responsibility,” the lawsuit states.

In a statement, the company said: "We take our commitment to responsibility very seriously and have built tremendous goodwill by responsibly marketing and selling our products. And we plan to use all means available to protect our brand trademarks."

PB&J Design didn’t return a phone call seeking comment.

In a shocking beer pong update the other day, and only weeks before the next World Series of Beer Pong, last years winning team “Smashing Time” has removed themselves from the official team list of the WSOBP V. A little over a year ago Time magazine published an articled entitled “The War Against Beer Pong” after video game designer JV Games had decided to make a beer pong video game for the Wii. After complaints from numerous anti-fun politicians and over concerned parents JV Games decided to rename the game “Pong Toss” and fill the cups with water instead of beer.

Now, we here at AllBeerPong and Skip's don’t promote binge drinking even though we like to talk about having a good time. In fact, we support the idea of using water as an alternative to beer because sometimes you don’t want to be drinking out of the same cups as the guy with the cold sores on his lips or maybe you’re playing in your prude girlfriend’s living room and she’ll flip out if you spill beer on her oriental rugs. When you play with water, no one says you have to drink the water in the cups. However, Dartmouth decided to ban “Water Pong” because they were concerned with hyponatremia, otherwise known as water intoxication.

The University of Pennsylvania, Yale University, the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and Tufts University have banned drinking games. Georgetown University has gone so far to ban beer pong, specially made beer pong tables, and inordinate numbers of ping pong balls and any other alcohol related paraphernalia in its on-campus dorms.

Even when Skip’s Garage is on vacation, we are really not. Having a job that consists of teaching the evolution of beer pong and the perfection of partying applies to every facet of life.

Maybe we’re just caught up on the idea of being able to bring a portable beer pong table on the Monorail cross country from Zurich to Paris or from Munich to Milan.

The idea of drinking beer is already associated with pretty much every sport across the globe. You have Lowenbrau with Soccer in Germany or Red Stripe in Jamaica. There’s even a British guy flipping back and forth between the BBC news and a game of cricket with a cold Beck’s in his hand.

Well I just booked my return trip back to Switzerland in mid-July, and I thought I would bring the SkipsBeerPong team with me. Because I like to pack light and US Customs can be nuts, I’m going to bring an inflatable beer pong table with me to enjoy. Although I truly love their folding tables, you have to love these inflatable beer pong tables from poolside pong for travel, seriously!

This trip is more R&R from the stress of work and a need for a change of scenery. However, I have a ton of friends and family in Switzerland, and I plan to show them these fun games and products. Zurich won’t know what hit it when I show up with an inflatable table!

Let’s not forget about my side trips to Italy and Germany. It will be great to take in some new cultures and traditions, but I can’t leave my own culture and favorite pastime behind in the States! Ich liebe BEER PONG!!!

Is it better to drink beer or liquor?

As an avid drinker and party enthusiast, I must say that liquor is a great choice if you’re looking for a quick fix. The ladies love fruity drinks and any one can get access to their parent’s liquor cabinet.

The $25,000 regional beer pong tournament and UConn spring weekend was a success. Luciano Diaz and Jeff Matlin took home the big win and received a free trip to Atlantic City as well as free entry into the $25,000 tournament and free beer for the entire tournament from June 11-13, 2009.

Diaz and Matlin had some tough competition but were able to prevail by beating Mike Sapienza and Geoff Currie in the final game. Diaz and Matlin looked strong but will definitely have to bring their "A" games to the World Pong Tour's championship in Atlantic City.

On another note, we were able to advertise our tables quite easily throughout the weekend by traveling around and promoting all throughout the UConn area. We got a great response from everyone we came into contact with and we were able to sell quite a few of our floating tables.

All in all we had a great weekend and can't wait to do it again.

Unfortunately, the trip to Panama City Beach, FL is over and it is now back to work in cold CT. The trip went exceptionally well with the sales of multiple floating beer pong tables and a few folding pong tables as well.

We made a ton of valuable business connections and met some amazing people down there who gave us a lot of insight about the blog and our beer pong table website. We continuously walked the beaches handing out fliers and business cards to try and spread the word. We also got rid of ton of stickers and met a few locals who will be helping us out with future promotions.

We encourage anyone and everyone to vacation in Panama City Beach as it was one of the most amazing places we have ever been. The beaches, ocean, restaurants and nightlife all made it one incredible trip.
